Hello folks,

a quick reminder of discs released this coming Monday including the debut album from Thee Spivs (with album launch gig tonight!), a re-issued classic from The Milkshakes, and split single from Thee Headcoatees/Thee Headcoats. Plus details of our Christmas Party/single. Read on!

Thee Spivs - "Taped Up" CD/LP

This is one of the most talked about bands you’ve never heard of, Thee Spivs have been playing raw and primal garage punk music all over London for the last three years in any venue, party or street that will take them.

After forming in 2007, members, Ben Edge (Guit/Vox) Dan May (bass) and Steve Coley (drums) quickly gained a reputation for their energetic and unpredictable live performances. They met up with Liam Watson from ToeRag studios in 2009 and recorded a few tracks of which two tracks came out as a limited one off 7” on 1965 records in late 2009.

After a successful European tour in spring 2010 they set off recording their debut album, ‘Taped Up.' It features 14 tracks on the CD, 12 on the vinyl including their first single ‘It’s True’ plus their new single ‘I Don’t Want It’.

It’s an edgy mix of Punk, Garage and a bit of Rock ‘N’ Roll, it’s a storming debut !

*The album launch gig is tonight at London's Hope & Anchor (207 Upper Street, N1 1RL). £5 will get you in and there's support from The Sceptres and Hank Haint.*

THE MILKSHAKES were mainly Micky Hampshire (Git/Vox) Billy Childish (Git/Vox) Bruce Brand (Drums) Russ Wilkins (Bass)

When his punk band, the Pop Rivets, broke up in 1980, Billy Childish formed a new group with Mickey Hampshire, a Pop Rivets roadie who had been performing in a group called Mickey and the Milkshakes. The two began writing songs together and released their first LP, Talkin' About, in 1981. With Childish on guitar and vocals, Hampshire on guitar and vocals, Bruce Brand on drums, and Russ Wilkins (later replaced by John Agnew) on bass, the Milkshakes sound was a primitive blend of British beat groups, like the early Kinks at their toughest, and hard-rocking American guitar instrumentalists, like Link Wray. This sound came to be known as the "Medway sound" and Childish has been playing a variation on it throughout his whole career. The Milkshakes were a very prolific group, recording nine records in their six years together. Childish and Hampshire split the lead vocal duties and the band was very much a blend of Childish's primitive songwriting and Hampshire's more melodic leanings. The group also masterminded and backed a Medway girl group, the Delmonas. The Milkshakes broke up in 1984 and Childish, Brand, and Agnew went on to form Thee Mighty Caesars where Childish's raw punk-blues could roam untainted by any semblance of professionalism.

Thee Headcatees - "Johnny Jack" 7"

This is a split single release from Thee Headcoates/Thee Headcoats from 1995. Available on black or yellow vinyl.

It's been out of print for years until we recently found a few boxes in a corner of the warehouse. The cover shows the band on tour in Japan with a very youthful looking Ian Damaged.

Thee Headcoatees were four girls from the Medway towns - Holly Golightly, Kyra Rubella, Miss Ludella Black & Bongo Debbie. They started life as mates of Thee Headcoats doing a few songs on stage and then came the great idea to do a proper album, ‘Girlsville’ was recorded and released on Hangman Records and a great new band was born. Whenever Thee Headcoats played Thee Headcoatees also did a set, at one time it seemed like they were more popular that the boys, more albums followed and we did a few singles plus a compilation of all their singles on one nice album. They called it a day in 1999. Check out our latest set of four re-issues of their Vinyl Japan albums out on vinyl and CD.
