After their first two 7” singles last year the CYANIDE PILLS are ready to launch their loud & snotty debut album…due out on July 5th. Exploding out of the speakers this 19 track album is bursting with some of the best Pop-punk tunes we’ve heard in years. Think of The Boys, The Briefs, Dickies and you’ll get it.

The Cyanide Pills are from Leeds, UK and have been playing around for a few years, this is pure, very British punk rock with a great pop sensibility, they are heading out with the Cute Lepers in May and the will be doing a full tour later in the year.

This is from SugarBuzz Magazine…

I love the Cyanide Pill's tinny, spontaneous, cheap-sounding, production value, too. It sounds raw, and real...Americans tend to Pro-Tool the life outta everything, nowadays. They polish it 'til it becomes a product, loses all it's charm, and truthfulness. The 'Pills aren't merely eager young puppets, being master-minded by some grey haired old fart producer. I'm glad they ain't got nobody editing out all the raggedy, heart-felt bits! Man, the CYANIDE PILLS are fucking great! They're fun, boppy, now. Truly, the nazz. Bubblegum lyrics about politics and teenage alienation. They look terrific. You're sure to dig 'em. if you like real rock'n'roll. Seek them out, NOW.

We still have copies of their first 2 singles available through our online shop.

Betty And The Werewolves long long awaited debut album after their two singles ‘Euston Station’ and ‘David Cassidy.’ The latter was featured on last years Rough Trade comp ‘Indiepop 09’

Betty And The Werewolves are Laura McMahon on Vox/Guitar, Helen Short on Bass/ Vox/Keyboards, Emily Bennet on Guitar/vox and Doug McFarlane on drums. Formed in 2007 and are three girls and one boy from London and Cambridge who whoop and howl through the night as their sweetly sung melodies collide with glitter-struck punk guitars. Taking inspiration from luminary lycanthropes Virginia Woolf and Grandma Wolf, they sing ditties about falling in love with David Cassidy and strange encounters on night buses, shouting all the while and scuffing up their party shoes

They signed with Damaged Goods after a gig supporting Holly Golightly at the 100 Club in London and set off to Gizzard studios in east London to record their first two singles, then after a year or so of writing songs they recorded this album with Jon at Onecat studios in Brixton after a tip from fellow indiepopper Amelia Fletcher.

The album is a great mix of indiepop and shouty punky pop songs with great lyrics and boundless energy. After a lot of stress over the cover it was decided that a selection of tea and cakes would fit the bill…and we think it does the job too.

They played this years Camden Crawl and will be at Indietracks later this year. Here's their forthcoming gigs at the moment.

The Piney Gir Country Roadshow - Jesus Wept (CD/Digi) release 30th August

Finally a couple of items that are not up for pre-order yet but that we thought you might like to hear about. Firstly a fantastic album from The Piney Gir Country Roadshow.

Piney Gir taunts traditional country music with a big city edge… Jesus Wept is a nod to Piney's strict religious upbringing and her urge to walk the line between naughty and nice. There comes a time when everyone should question their faith and Piney (with the help of her trusty Roadshow) has channelled that into a record. A record that's a little bit country, a little bit rock 'n' roll and a whole lot of attitude.

Jesus Wept is more than a froth of petticoats in a fresh summer field, it's Ingmar Bergman's 'Seventh Seal' twisted through the eyes of a local drunk at the truck stop honky tonk. It's fun but it's dark and you don't know if you should like it so much but you do, so have another whiskey.

Previously Piney has been compared to her heroes like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette; she's been hailed an 'indie Dolly Parton." But this album is more Emmy Lou Harris in her Graham Parsons days, it's little girl lost… it's the devil in disguise and the devil looks good. This album sees Piney grow up and face hard facts; hard facts that can make many a country song that much better. "'A tear in my beer' ain't the half of it," says Piney.

Jesus Wept is Piney's book of revelations and she's taking you with her to heaven and back.

Fabienne Delsol - On My Mind (CD/LP/Digi) Release 6th September

Last but by no means least is Fabienne's 3rd solo album. Again not as yet available to pre-order but here's the cover and some info to whet your appetite.

The very welcome return of Fabienne Delsol with her 3rd solo album, a follow up to 2007's “Between You And Me.” Originally from Limoges in France, Fabienne was formerly the lead singer of legendary London garage band The Bristols and has been living and working in London with husband Liam Watson (Toe Rag Studios) since 1996.

Put together in studio down-time and ably backed by Toe Rag's stable of musicians,“On My Mind” features Fabienne's customary mixture of both English and French lyrics sung with plenty of coquettish charm. With songs and production so authentically 60's they could have been taken from tapes gathering dust in Serge Gainsbourg's garage for the last 40 years.

The album marks something of a departure from the jaunty beat-pop and ye-ye of her previous albums however, there's a definite autumnal feel to several of the tracks, putting you in mind of what the much mooted Francoise Hardy/Nick Drake collaboration might have yielded.

Lyrically the bulk of the album deals with the melancholic side of love and has a slightly trippy and introspective edge. Most notably on “Strange Shadows” and the title track “On my Mind” with its phased drums and “Strawberry Fields” style moog motifs. You're unlikely to hear a better record this autumn!

Here what the press have said about her previous albums:-

“An absolute gem” 4/5 - STOOL PIGEON

“Timeless and endlessly entertaining” - UNCUT

That's it for now, enjoy the sun!
